Our approach

We actively encourage members to participate in education and professional development activities that serve to assist you to better care for people living with liver disease. We promote relevant education events through this website, so visit regularly to keep up-to-date.

The AHA also takes on an ‘expert educator’ role, as required. Members of our committee and members of our association are called upon at times to present papers in professional forums or make comment in the media. This allows us to educate the broader medical community and general public about the specialised nature of our profession.

Our education events and resources

Past and current AHA activities include:

  • Bi-Annual Viral Hepatitis Conference: dedicated half-day session
Yearly Australasian Gastroenterology Week Conference: dedicated half-day session.
  • A yearly AHA Summit for our members and invited guests, in collaboration with Schering Plough Pharmaceuticals, which provides updates within the area of hepatology.
Publication of a draft set of Competencies and Standards for AHA Nurses . These were launched at the AHA Summit, April 2008 and are available to AHA members. These competencies form the basis of an educational program for nurses and allied health professionals commencing and continuing to work in this area.
